Important government policies and initiatives are typically implemented through projects and programmes. Delivering meaningful work requires providing real value to the public, requiring a tight focus on the outcomes and benefits that a team are expected to deliver. It is critical to explore why outcomes and benefits are key to the success of a project and how they are managed and measured throughout the project life cycle. Furthermore, tools such as a benefits realisation plan make it easier to track measurable benefits and make an assessment about the success of a project’s outcomes. 

This digital course provides an insight into the role that projects play in delivering government missions. It considers the relationship between deliverables and outcomes and the measurable benefits that emerge because of an outcome being delivered. It also explores the importance of pre-project baselining and the different ways of measuring the benefits that will subsequently emerge.  

Having completed this course, you’ll be able to recognise what project benefits are and their importance within the project’s lifecycle. Able to identify the many different benefits of Civil Service projects, you’ll also know how different techniques and approaches can be used to measure these benefits. 

This is a part of a suite of five courses, designed to provide non-specialists with an introduction to the fundamentals of successful project management.
