HR Profession
As a profession we have a workforce of approximately 12,000. HR have always had a relentless commitment to providing a world-leading approach. HR roles within the Civil Service (CS) are diverse, challenging and rewarding. Our HR professionals ensure that CS has the right talent in the right place; we create world-class learning programmes to serve the public more effectively. Our job is to also ensure we help build a skilled and modern workforce, develop inspiring leaders and make CS a truly great place to work. Visit the Government People Function website here.
We are currently in the late stages of HR Career Framework development and are preparing to publish it. The Framework, which is aligned to the CIPD Profession Map, will provide tools for career and development planning, supporting our staff with identifying and accessing the right skills to build rich and fulfilling HR careers in the CS. The published version of the Career Framework will be available for colleagues to use until the update version is available.
Alongside the formal learning offer we also support the HR profession in other areas of professional development.
Mentor Programme
The HR Mentor Matching has been introduced to provide HR colleagues from across the Civil Service with the access to development through profession-specific mentorship. We also endeavour to connect our participants with people in different government departments to facilitate function-wide networking and collaboration. The demand for the cross-HR mentorship was identified through the talent biographies received from colleagues across the Function.
