P3O® Foundation

Identify how portfolio, programmes and projects relate
Recognise why it is important to provide appropriate support at all these levels
Understand the value of a P3O to the organization
Identify a 'best-in-class' P3O model
Identify different models for support provision, and the factors that influence their design and recognise the roles within a P3O
Apply the main P3O principles and learn how to identify the tools and techniques that support consistent delivery of functions and services
Prepare for and take the P3O Foundation examination.

Overview

This product is not available via the Learning Frameworks service after 31 October 2025. We suggest bookings are made six weeks before the start date of the learning, so by 19 September 2025.

The contract that facilitates this service ends on 30 April 2026. Because of this, there will be some changes to the learning available to book. We expect that you will be able to book this product again from May 2026, once the new contract is live.

Off the shelf (OTS)

The Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices (P3O®) guidance provides advice, supported by discussion and examples, on how to develop a governance structure that helps optimise an organisation’s investment in change alongside its business as usual work.

This foundation course, based on the 2013 guidance, comprises 3 days of trainer led instruction, with the foundation examination on day 3 of the course.

Successful completion of this course requires access an external online assessment. The online assessment platform may not be accessible from Civil Service department IT due to security restrictions.
