Grants Profession
The Grants Profession is a diverse community that brings together grant-making practitioners from across government, arm's length bodies and the wider public sector.
Grants professionals play a vital role in delivering government policy and advancing the missions. Approximately 13% of total government expenditure is allocated to grants, amounting to around £153 billion in 2023-24. This funding supports essential initiatives across areas such as healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, research, crisis response and more. The expertise of grants practitioners ensures that these schemes are designed and managed effectively, maximising the impact of every pound spent to deliver meaningful outcomes for citizens.
As part of the Grants Function, the Grants Profession aims to support the professional development, careers, and work lives of grants practitioners. By promoting shared standards of excellence, fostering a strong professional identity, and offering clear career pathways, we strive to build a recognised, skilled, and empowered collective workforce - made up of expert professionals dedicated to delivering critical government policies, driving effective grant outcomes, maximising value for citizens and the economy, and continuously enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of grant funding.
The Grants Profession is open to all practitioners - from policy design to management and administration. Whether grants is your primary, secondary, or one of several areas of expertise, we encourage you to join the Grants Profession - together we are a united force committed to improving grant outcomes for citizens and communities.
