  • bullet point
    Identify Appropriate Evaluation Methods -
Participants will be able to identify and differentiate among various policy evaluation methods, including theory of change analysis, research synthesis, and experimental designs, such as randomised controlled trials, propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity designs, and interrupted time series analyses.
  • bullet point
Assess Data Needs for Policy Evaluation -
Learners will understand the types of data required for effective policy evaluation and learn strategies for collecting and synthesizing this data to support evidence-based policy decisions.
  • bullet point
    Evaluate Implementation and Delivery -
Delegates will develop skills in assessing policy implementation and delivery, recognising factors that influence successful policy rollouts and identifying key metrics for evaluating these processes.
  • bullet point
Apply Evaluation Methods Using Case Studies -
Through recent case studies, participants will have hands-on experience testing the applicability and effectiveness of different evaluation methods in real-world scenarios, enhancing their ability to conduct policy evaluations in their own work.

Overview

Off the shelf (OTS)

This two-day training course is particularly useful for those involved with CBA and impact analysis. It allows delegates to understand what effective policy evaluation is and what tools are available to them. We explore the full range of policy evaluation methods, including theory of change analysis, research synthesis, types of data needed for policy evaluation, implementation and delivery evaluation, and appropriate evaluation methods for establishing the net effect of policies such as: randomised controlled trials; propensity score matching; difference-in-differences; regression discontinuity designs and interrupted time series analyses.

Taught at introductory/intermediate level, the course will not focus exclusively on experimental and QED designs but will offer a rounded view of policy evaluation methods. Delegates will use recent case studies to test the value of these evaluation methods.
