This course is designed to improve the writing skills of participants who are working in a policy environment and who have to produce documents that support the development and maintenance of that policy. This course is best suited to those who are in the early stages of their policy work or career.

The development and maintenance of any policy is dependent on the quality of the documents that support it. These documents will capture the reasoning and justification for different aspects of the policy. They will be aimed at different audiences including Parliament, the media and various stakeholders. Producing documents that meet these demands in changing and pressured circumstance is challenging. This course provides opportunities for participants to study theory of effective writing and practice their skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Course aims
The course will cover:

•Discussion on techniques and tools you can apply when drafting any form of written communication including policy documents
•Examination of the rules and elements of effective writing in a policy environment
•Practical working on the policy documents you draft in your work using the tools you have studied to help you produce quality documents in a limited time.
