This course is open to UK, EU and international individuals working in the field of fraud prevention and investigation, or looking to develop a career in the area. No prior entry requirements.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the cyber threats faced by an organisation exploring how the risks are manifested on digital technology platforms and how best to respond to and prevent them. This foundation programme covers the main risks experienced by digital users and organisations and how to respond to them, as well as highlighting the developing and ever-changing trends and threats involving cyber fraud and security increasingly faced by all sectors.
Certified by SFJ Awards, an independent national awarding body, the course will cover the main risk areas experienced by organisations, as well as highlighting key cyber fraud trends. Delivered in an interactive format and drawing on insightful case studies, it is ideal for anyone responsible for responding to digitally enabled fraud and associated threats in the modern digital economy. This course is delivered and assessed across 9 modules.
This foundation programme covers the main risks experienced by digital users and organisations and how to respond to them, as well as highlighting the developing and ever-changing trends and threats involving cyber fraud and security increasingly faced by all sectors.
• You will learn how data is stored and processed on digital devices, and then how data is transmitted and handled across the internet, and the key risks associated with each.
• Learners will explore a range of digital fraud typologies, from phishing and pharming to romance frauds to gain an understanding of how social engineering works and effective responses to it.
• We will cover how criminals identify and recover sensitive data online, from the Deep Web and the Dark net to image exploitation and the use of Google search.
• You will gain an understanding of how malware and ransomware attack and operate across devices and networks, and appropriate ways to respond.
• Learn a foundational level of how cryptography is used for security. This will include encryption and hashing to Blockchain.
• We will cover database hacks and password exposure in insecure systems. Exploring both how password management systems use hash functions and how criminals crack them.
• Learners will be able to identify denial of service attacks and subsequently how databases function, how criminals hack them and steal data, and what can be done to protect them.
• An overview of the ways to prevent cyber fraud, as well as how to investigate it.
This course contains assessments across the nine modules. Total estimated time to complete is c48 hours split between the 3 full tutor led days online teaching and independent study to complete any pre/post unit reading and assignments.
Successful completion of this course requires access an external online assessment. The online assessment platform may not be accessible from Civil Service department IT due to security restrictions.
