Follow procedures for recovery, packaging, and labelling in line with forensic and evidential standards. -
Maintain Continuity and Integrity of Evidence
Understand and maintain the chain of custody from collection to submission.
Accurately complete exhibits logs, continuity forms, and property registers. -
Work with Forensic and Technical Experts
Understand when and how to engage specialist services (e.g. digital forensics, forensic science).
Integrate expert input into wider investigative planning and case management. -
Document and Present Evidence Effectively
Record evidence-gathering processes clearly and professionally in statements and reports.
Prepare materials for disclosure and presentation at court or tribunal.

Off the shelf (OTS)
This three-day course is designed for investigators, enforcement officers, and regulatory professionals who are responsible for locating, securing, and handling evidence in criminal, civil, or regulatory investigations.
The course provides a thorough grounding in the legal, procedural, and practical aspects of evidence gathering, from the scene of an incident through to submission for analysis or use in court. Delegates will explore types of evidence (including physical, digital, documentary, and witness evidence), relevant legislation, and the principles of continuity, integrity, and proportionality.
Through scenario-based activities and discussion, the course helps learners build the confidence and skills needed to gather evidence lawfully, ethically, and in a way that stands up to scrutiny in court or disciplinary proceedings.
