Overview
Off the shelf (OTS)
This One-day training course provides delegates with the skills necessary to carry out an interview with a suspected person. Perhaps the most challenging part of the investigative process is interviewing the person who is alleged to have committed an offence or breached organisational policy. This training looks at how an Investigating Manager/Person can best structure the interview, allowing them to obtain a full account, that would either absolve the suspected person or, permit the organisation to present a full and detailed account of the interview to the tribunal or court.
The course provides delegates with an understanding of how to plan, prepare and carry out an interview, and evaluate it. Delegates also have the opportunity to practice key learning at the end of the course with feedback.
The One-Day Course builds essential skills for conducting internal investigative interviews, covering all stages of the interview process in theory, with focused practice on the interview itself. It emphasises best practice without the need for formal legal compliance.
The Two-Day Course provides a more in-depth exploration of the full investigative interview process—planning, opening, conducting, and closing—with greater opportunity for questions, discussion, and detailed practice using 'real-work' scenarios. It develops more advanced skills for investigators who may need to comply with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), including delivering cautions, managing legal representatives, and ensuring evidential standards are met. This course also includes practical interview assessments with detailed feedback.
This course would be suitable for anyone conducting investigative interviews into misconduct or breaches of organisational policy.
