Overview
Off the shelf (OTS)
This combined five-day course is designed for surveillance officers, investigators, and operational staff who need to operate effectively in public transport environments while maintaining accurate, legally reliable documentation. It blends specialist deployment skills with the essential record-keeping practices required to support covert operations and evidential processes.
Delegates work through realistic scenarios across buses, rail systems, stations, and busy public spaces, focusing on remaining covert in high-density environments where rapid movement and constant situational awareness are essential. The course also develops confidence in using foot units and camera vehicles, managing hostile locations, employing covert communications, and responding to incidents discreetly.
Alongside the operational element, participants develop strong log-keeping capabilities. This includes completing personal logbooks, producing Surveillance Management Records (SMRs), and capturing operational activity in a way that supports case building, reviews, and legal scrutiny. Practical exercises produced under time pressure reinforce accuracy, objectivity, and continuity.
