Off the shelf (OTS)

Delegates will acquire the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to provide effective supervision of mediators. Suitable for experienced mediators who are moving into, or already operating in a supporting or coaching role for new and/or existing mediators. The 3-day Supervision Programme is recognised as an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Recognised Award Programme. It is an in-practice programme, meaning after the two days delegates apply their learning in practice and bring back their learning to a third assessment day (4-6 weeks later).


Learning Objectives:
By the end of their training, delegates will:
• Become familiar with the core elements of supervision in mediation: Accountability, Development and Support.
• Identify the nature of the supervisory relationship and developed appropriate contracts to reflect this.
• Explore the pivotal role that the supervisor plays in balancing the demands of management and delivery.
• Build an awareness of effective equality and diversity practice and its relevance for supervision.
• Be given an overview of CMP’s Achieving Excellence Programme© and the place of supervision within it.
• Become familiar with the existing standards of effective practice delivery as defined by key regulatory bodies.
• Consider leadership styles in response to supervisees’ developmental needs.
• Identify the role of the supervisor in coaching and mentoring new mediators and assisting them to reach a high standard of competence.
• Explore ways to encourage experienced mediators to further develop their skills.
• Consider ways to challenge poor performance and increase standards of practice.
• Explore a range of supervision methods such as one to one supervision, coworking supervision, team supervision and direct observation.
• Consider helpful recording techniques.
• Practice delivering supervision between modules and reflected on and articulated the application of theory to practice.
