EMCC Practitioner – Professional Coach Development Programme
The second half of the Certificate in Executive Coaching, leading to Practitioner-level accreditation with EMCC.

Programme Purpose
To upskill coaches who have completed the Foundation course (EMCC Level 3 Internal Coach Development Programme) and support them to achieve full accreditation at Practitioner level.

Summary
A three-month coach education programme for experienced coaches.

Who should attend this programme?
You are a suitable candidate for this course if
• You have completed the EMCC Level 3 – Internal Coach Development Programme (Foundation) and wish to upgrade your accreditation status to Practitioner.
• On rare occasions, candidates who already have significant coaching experience and qualifications (e.g. over 500 hours practice experience and training at Level 7 or above) may be accepted without attending the Foundation course first.

Format
The programme is delivered via 6 x 3-hour live, online modules delivered using MS Teams.

Key Components Include
• 6 x 3-hour live, online modules delivered using MS Teams.
• Interactive reflective journal and online quizzes.
• Online community discussion forum, and professional learning environment.
• 15 hours collected coaching practice.
• Faculty feedback on a recording and feedback from coachees.
• Self-assessment against course learning outcomes and competences.

Five Sessions

Session 1 – Positive Psychology
Focusing on strengths, accessing intrinsic motivation, building strategies of hope, cultivating positive emotions and other important coaching principles.

Session 2 – Constructive Challenge
We explore John Heron’s six categories of intervention and consider how and when to draw upon ‘informing’, ‘confronting’ or ‘prescribing’ styles of intervention.

Session 3 – Use of the Self as Instrument
We introduce a relational approach to using confrontative interventions, drawing on Pamela MacLean’s model of Self as Coach.

Session 4 – Contracting Revisited
We introduce a range of goal-setting models and explore the value of contracting at the start of the relationship, as well as managing endings.

Session 5 – Interpersonal Dynamics
We introduce the principles of Transactional Analysis for coaches, sharing a ‘theory of relating’ that will empower your practice.

Session 6 – Practicing Professionally
Finally, we consider how best to maintain a professional practice. We cover CPD, supervision, reflective practice, ethics, record keeping and more.

Recorded Session
• You will receive professional feedback on a recorded coaching session.
Reflective Journals
• You will maintain a reflective journal and complete this after every module.
Session Quizzes and Community Discussion
• The online learning environment promotes interaction and social learning
Practice
• You will collect 15 hours’ coaching practice outside the session time.
Independent Study
• There is always some follow-up reading to do, and some pre-work for each session
Professional Dialogue
• A 1:1 with course faculty to consolidate everything covered and discuss next steps


Accreditation
Accreditation at Practitioner level is awarded from EMCC on successful completion of all course components.
