EMCC Foundation – Internal Coach Development Programme
The first half of the Certificate in Executive Coaching, leading to Foundation-level accreditation with EMCC.

Programme Purpose
To give you the knowledge, confidence and skills to start a coaching practice, and to enable your accreditation at Foundation level with EMCC.
This programme can also be used as a bridging exercise for individuals who have already trained as coaches. It is an opportunity for you to consolidate prior learning and obtain accreditation with EMCC at your current level of practice.

Summary
A three-month coach education programme for new (or returning) coaches.

Who should attend this programme?
You are a suitable candidate for this course if:
• You want to get started on your coaching journey.
• You have at least 5 years management experience.
• You want to incorporate coaching skills in your leadership style
• You want to join an internal coaching faculty

You may also join if:
• You have trained as a coach before but want to hone your core skills.
• You are part of an initiative to create an internal coaching faculty.
• You are a manager who wishes to adopt a leader-as-coach style of leadership.

Format
The programme is delivered via 6 x 3-hour live, online modules delivered using MS Teams.

Key Components Include
• 6 x 3-hour live, online modules delivered via MS Teams.
• Interactive reflective journal and online quizzes.
• Online community discussion forum, and professional learning environment.
• 15 hours collected coaching practice.
• Faculty feedback on a recording and feedback from supervisees.
• Self-assessment against course learning outcomes and competences.

Five Sessions

Session 1 – Introduction
The first session introduces the course and learning platform, then looks at the definitions and principles of coaching.

Session 2 – Asking Powerful Questions
Incisive questions are crucial for effective coaching. What makes them so powerful? Coaching demonstration, and introduction to structuring the session.

Session 3 – Coaching Models
Building on the last session, we introduce a range of coaching models and invite you to start developing your own. Practice and Feedback.

Session 4 – Listening Skills
This rich session includes practical exercises and builds on the core conditions of the Humanistic approach. We draw on the work of Nancy Kline and William Miller.

Session 5 – Coaching in the Moment
Coaching as part of your everyday leadership style; the coaching mindset; coaching under extreme time pressure, and coaching cultures.

Session 6 – Coaching in Organisations
Exploring systems thinking (e.g. interconnectedness and non-linear dynamics) and the link to effective coaching.

Completion
A final, digital module completes the programme, covering ethics, supervision, CPD, log-keeping and accreditation criteria. This marks the conclusion of the programme.

Additional Elements

Recorded Session
• You will receive professional feedback on a recorded coaching session.
Reflective Journals
• You will maintain a reflective journal and complete this after every module.
Session Quizzes and Community Discussion
• The online learning environment promotes interaction and social learning
Practice
• You will collect 15 hours’ coaching practice outside the session time.
Independent Study
• There is always some follow-up reading to do, and some pre-work for each session
Professional Dialogue
• A 1:1 with course faculty to consolidate everything covered and discuss next steps

Accreditation
Accreditation at Foundation level is awarded from EMCC on completion of all course components. If you are using this programme as a bridging exercise from previous training, then accreditation will be awarded at your correct level of training, experience and capability, i.e. Foundation, Practitioner or Senior Practitioner.
