Who should attend this programme
This programme is for people who have already completed Coaching Supervision, Part 1 - Fundamentals and wish to accelerate their journey towards accreditation as a supervisor. You will also be working towards accreditation as a coach at Senior Practitioner level, unless you already have it.
Format
A three-month programme adding to existing supervision skills, consisting of 6 x taught input sessions delivered online via MS Teams. A 2000-word essay marks the conclusion of this course.
Summary
This course facilitates a step change in your development journey as a supervisor. We delve into the detail of ‘parallel process’, the psychodynamic approach, the relational lens and supervising groups.
Key components include:
•6 x live, 3-hour, interactive and experiential taught input online modules.
•Six entries to a reflective journal with input from programme faculty.
•Six online quiz exercises, highlighting key learning points.
•Online community discussion forum, and professional learning environment.
•Practice supervising groups of coaches.
•Continuation of supervision with existing supervisees.
•Final assessment of an essay describing your approach, including case study.
Six Sessions
Session 1. Parallel Process
Noticing, understanding and working explicitly with ‘parallel ‘process’. What is it, how does it operate, and what should I do when I notice it?
Session 2. Psychodynamic Approach
An introduction to core concepts, including psychological defence mechanisms, transference, countertransference, projection and projective identification.
Session 3. The Relational Lens
Understanding Social Constructionism and a narrative interpretation of the self. What does this mean for us as supervisors? Do I need to do anything differently?
Session 4. Working with Groups: Practicalities
Creating the container and holding the space for groups of supervisees.
Session 5. Working with Groups: Interpersonal Dynamics
Managing complex group dynamics, facilitating a process, harnessing the collective intelligence of the group and offering supervision, all at once!
Session 6. Working with Groups: Practice and Feedback
Taking risks, listening, valuing different perspectives, having real conversations.
2000 Word Assignment
Towards the end of this programme, we introduce the 2000-word essay. This is a reflective written exercise, including a case study, in which you consider your supervision journey so far and your identity as a supervisor.
Assessment
Assessment involves a comprehensive consideration of your participation in the learning journey as a whole and culminates in a final review with course faculty.
The reflective journals, session quizzes, community discussion comments, live contributions, feedback from supervisees, 2000-word essay and individualised faculty feedback all count towards validating your learning and underpin your certificate of completion of this programme.
How does this course relate to the Diploma in Coaching Supervision (DipS)?
This course is Part 2 (of 3) of DipS.
On successful completion of the Coaching Supervision Foundation Programme, you will be two thirds of the way towards completing the Diploma.
As such, it is a significant step towards achieving the prestigious EMCC Global individual supervisor accreditation, ESIA.
You may choose to move straight on to Part 3, or you may decide to wait and join a future cohort. All three parts of the diploma programme act as standalone courses and may be joined by anyone who has previously completed the earlier elements.
EMCC Accreditation as a coach at Senior Practitioner level is a prerequisite for attending Part 3 – Your Professional Identity.
