Overview

Cross Civil Service

Every civil servant is expected to deliver a high-quality service to the public, making best use of the resources available to them and delivering value for money for the taxpayer. How well they perform that role contributes significantly to maintaining public trust and upholding their department’s reputation. With the Civil Service keen to embed a value for money culture across the entire organisation, financial management is therefore an essential skill.

This digital tutorial provides a general introduction to financial management in government. It explores the sources of government finance and how this money is allocated to public bodies. It also explores how public bodies use these funds and how they’re held accountable for delivering value for money.
