Overview

Off the shelf (OTS)

This practical two-part workshop has been designed to rapidly raise baseline knowledge of the EU for DBT staff and facilitate the development of one DBT EU voice. It is contextualised for DBT from the core curriculum course ‘UK, EU and new international relationships'

The first part of the workshop takes an overview of the EU and its institutions, focusing on how the EU creates, agrees and implement its policies. It covers the EU's decision-making processes and enforcement mechanisms, the UK's Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU, supply chain issues, and other trade aspects of being outside the Customs Union and Single Market.

The second part expands on this overview, looking at how the various parts of the EU interact, how to influence them, and the implications for the UK as a non-EU state. It focuses in particular on UK interactions with the European Commission, and includes relevant case studies.
