🕮 Off the Shelf (OTS)

This event will help senior leaders become more confident and effective when briefing Ministers.
The focus will be on building positive relationships based on trust. Participants will hear from senior guest speakers and have an opportunity to practise briefing those who have been Ministers.

This event will help senior leaders become more confident and effective when briefing Ministers. It will help delegates to:
• build trusted working relationships with Ministers which support productive dialogue
• support informed decision-making by confidently communicating trade-offs, downsides and risks
• strengthen their influence by understanding different communication styles and knowing how to work with their own and others’ preferences
• know how to build resilience and continue thinking under pressure to keep the conversation moving forward
• hone their briefing skills through supported practice with former Ministers and experienced senior civil servants.

Speakers will include previous Ministers and Permanent Secretaries. The course will be facilitated by former Senior Civil Servants.

All delegates will receive a copy of ‘The Mind of the Minister’ by Tom Brown. It focuses on the partnership between Ministers and senior civil servants with first hand accounts of how this relationship has worked in the past and advice on creating effective collaborative working relationships.
