Overview
Off the shelf (OTS)
Managers have the complex task of aligning with broad, organisational goals, while at the same time, ensuring specific tasks and team projects are moving forward day-to-day.
Strategic thinking involves taking a step back from a problem or goal to see the bigger picture, while tactical thinking involves diving into the details to solve the problem/approach the task. Both styles are beneficial, and it is important we’re able to flex between the two. However, our heavy workloads and the pressures of the day-to-day often push us to short term tactics. Challenging this tactical default and connecting with the bigger picture will prevent us ‘firefighting’ when problems arise and work more cohesively as a team and organisation.
In this workout, we encourage people to acknowledge their default thinking style and to challenge tactical tendencies. After recognising common thinking traps, participants will learn, with tools, how to think more strategically and help their team to see the big picture too.
