Overview
Off the shelf (OTS)
Foundations of career planning is a half-day workshop designed as an introductory session to aid learners in considering career planning and personal development strategies. Advances and rise in the use of technology, increased emphasis on flexibility, and a need for continuous upskilling to adapt to new and emergent roles has meant careers have become non-linear. This demands individuals to be more self-aware, have the ability to horizon scan and build networks and proactively seek opportunities. Yet only a third of us know how to progress our career in our current organisation. The focus is typically on ‘where am I going?’ and ‘how do I get there?’ with very little engagement with ‘why; what’s my purpose, what are my transferable skills, what are my values that are important, what motivates me and how does that inform my desired future direction. This workshop provides activities to enable learners to reflect on their career to date, changes in the future of work and to explore the ‘who am I’ component of effective career management.
