Prerequisites:
No prior experience with psychological flexibility is required.
Overview:
In today’s fast-changing public service landscape shaped by social, economic, political, environmental, legal, and technological shifts, adaptability is essential. This interactive session introduces psychological flexibility as a foundational skill for resilience, wellbeing, and performance. Drawing on evidence-based research from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), participants will explore how psychological flexibility helps individuals and teams respond effectively to uncertainty and challenge.
The session includes a pulse check using interactive tools (polls, quizzes, chat, Q&A) to assess current levels of flexibility and provides a means of tracking progress over time. Breakout rooms offer deeper exploration of the five core components:
•Acceptance of emotions
•Cognitive distancing
•Being present
•Anchoring in values
•Taking committed action
Participants will reflect on their own flexibility, practice open conversations, and identify practical ways to embed values-led agility into daily work and team culture.
Course Objectives/Topics Covered:
•Introduce psychological flexibility and its relevance to public service
•Explore ACT-based components and their workplace application
•Facilitate reflection and dialogue on personal and team adaptability
