Basics of Organisation Development and Design

Overview

Off the shelf (OTS)

Our 3-day workshop is scaffolded with a resource pack that signposts wider learning opportunities in the disciplines of organisation design and organisation development. We explore the essentials to enhance your existing knowledge of your organisation strategy, direction and structure. We dissect some of the theory and look at how that works in practice and supports the transfer of learning to your context.

This course will take learners through systems thinking and how it applies to the development of their organisation, and how models and theories underpin organisation development and design. Learners will explore the difference between organisation design, organisation development, and change management, and where these disciplines work together. They will also look at the different levels at which organisation design can take place, from whole-organisation level to specific team level, and the organisation structures that are often used. The phases of design work will then be explored, including transitioning to a new design and optimising it, alongside discussion on change and stakeholder management.

The programme expands on to organisation development theories and diagnostic models to check the health of an organisation. It explores the role of data and the concept of self as an instrument of change as well.

The programme ends with learners completing an action plan for their context.
